Governance Structure of SHCCC (Chart)

Board of Governors

The Board of Governors, appointed by and accountable to the Canossian Missions, was established in 2009. It is the executive governing body of the College and is responsible for setting the strategic directions; determining the ethos of the College and how it conducts its business; approving, reviewing and monitoring the educational programmes; setting the policy framework; overseeing the performance of the College staff; and supporting the maintenance of the College’s assets. It also serves as an avenue of final appeal within the College for unresolved issues.

The membership of the Board of Governors includes 9 external members and 5 Canossian school managers who formally function as the School Management Committee.

Terms of Reference of the Board of Governors
  • Articulate the future goals of the college and set corporate objectives, within the overall framework of the Canossian Sisters’ vision for college development and the legal framework of the Education Ordinance (Cap 279).
  • Maintain and develop the ethos of the college with high standards of integrity.
  • Promote good communications and effective linkages between the Board members, the College staff, the students and the local community.
  • Support and approve the preparation for academic accreditation by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation for Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).
  • Promote high teaching standards and professional development and monitor the learning outcomes of the students.
  • Upgrade the human resources policies and practices of the College.
  • Monitor the financial well-being of the college.
Standing Committees of the Board of Governors

The Board of Governors is the governing body of the College with final authority over all matters relating to academic policy, finance and personnel.

All Board members are expected to provide support and advice to the College so as to ensure its well-being and sustainable development. The Board of Governors has appointed standing Committees to support the governance of the major activities of the College, namely, Academic Committee, Finance and Audit Committee, and Human Resources Committee. These Committees discharge their responsibilities according to the terms of reference prescribed by Board of Governors. The Board of Governors may also appoint ad hoc Committees or equivalent to take on matters of particular importance.

Academic Committee

The Academic Committee is established to maintain an overview of the academic activities of the College and to act as a forum for academic discussion and communication in respect of academic planning and curriculum activities. The Board of Governors has delegated the Academic Committee to oversee the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of quality standards of the academic programmes offered by the College.

Finance & Audit Committee

The Finance & Audit Committee is established to assist the Board of Governors in exercising its governance responsibilities, to set up a sound financial control system, and to provide advice on financial and auditing policies.

Human Resources Committee

The Human Resources Committee assists the Board of Governors in fulfilling its obligations relating to human resources and remuneration matters, and to ensure that a plan of continuity and professional development of all College staff is in place.
